Entryways, are the funniest of spaces.
Because they are high traffic areas,
they are generally the most overlooked and uninspiring.
I have to admit, my own is embarrassingly neglected!
**blush**
Like you, we use our entryway in an endless number of ways. Finding the right balance between function and style isn't always easy, and because I also work where I live the entryway in our home is particularly challenging. It's time to take the same approach I would with any project.
Function First:
What elements are necessary for ME in a fully functioning entryway?
Because each of our families and lifestyles are unique your answers may be different.
These are mine:
- Surfaces for resting of keys, handbag and outgoing mail,
- Seating (comfortable, but compact) for putting on/off shoes and boots, and to take a break from work to admire our fortunate outside views.
- Mirror for last minute "checking" before answering or heading out the door and reflecting natural light throughout the studio.
Style Second:
Look around the rest of your home for style inspiration, there is no right or wrong answer to your personal style with a balanced design approach.
If you are starting with a blank canvas, consider yourself lucky-
and hire decorator to save time, money and aggravation.
Is your Entryway less than Inspiring?
What functional elements does your entryway lack?
